In some professions, like firefighters or working in a heat surrounding inside or outside, it is difficult or even impossible to prevent getting hot during work. But there are some things that you could do to prevent workers from heat stress:
At the source
- shut heat-producing appliances off as much as possible or put in a separate room
- heat extraction
- applying sun protection
- increasing ventilation
- placing air conditioners and/or fans
- avoid strenuous exercise or reduce it
- flat roofs possibly wetting for cooling
Organisation
- Tropic time schedule
- breaks more often
- postponing heavy work
At the people
- wear light clothes, preferably cotton
- drink a lot (also think of extra salt)
- no alcohol
- cover off the head and use sunscreen
- with medical problems: advice to company questions
Rest
- flexible to deal with complaints and wishes of peoplegive
- more opportunity to shower and change cloths
